Configuring Destinations on Segment

Learning Objectives

Segment users only - the process

Skip this section if you're not using Segment.

A Destination is where Segment will send data as soon as an event (e.g, a button click or form submission) happens. Example Destinations include Facebook, Intercom, and Google Analytics. You’ll have to configure every Destination differently.

We’ll talk about the specifics of the main tools we suggest you add to your site, but the overall process of adding a destination looks like this:

  1. Log into Segment.
  2. On your Source Overview tab, click Add Destination
  3. Choose the channel from the list (often easiest to search for it)
  4. Click Configure [Channel Name]
  5. Select the source you want to add it to
  6. Click Confirm Source
  7. Configure what needs to be configured
    1. Alternately, if you’re redoing configurations that were already done on another Source (say for the web app and now you’re doing it for the mobile app), you can copy it over:
      1. Click the three dots in the top-right corner
      2. Select the Source to copy from
      3. Click Copy Settings
  8. Click Activate Destination
  9. Move on to the next one!

Set up every destination you listed in your strategy doc.
